Dear Neighbors, 

It has been an honor to serve as your State Representative for House District 24 and I am excited to continue to serve! I have spent my life serving others, through the military as a police woman, my time a social worker for elderly and disabled people, and over a decade of emergency management and disaster response work.

You deserve a leader with ground-level experience and strong problem-solving skills to listen and represent everyone in our great community. You deserve an honest person to advocate for all our needs, like healthcare, and public safety.

My core values have always been: work hard, serve others, and speak up.

I am excited to continue my service for all our neighbors, no matter their political beliefs or background. I am here to serve you!

LISA’S TOP PRIORITIES

    Small Business

    Lisa has demonstrated success in supporting small businesses throughout Colorado. She believes that removing some burdensome regulations for small businesses can help them thrive. That is why she has removed excess regulation and paperwork for providers to allow them more time to provide services.

    Lisa also believes in accountability for big businesses–large employers should help support their employees and avoid abusing our social systems in the process.

    Healthcare

    Lisa’s experience spans from direct case management to state-level policy making through nonprofit, government and medicaid programs. She has worked in nursing homes, hospitals, and community-based settings to help people remain in their homes and receive proper healthcare. She has piloted and expanded programs to transition people from institutions to communities.

    Lisa hopes to bring that ground level perspective and experience in order to create more effective and efficient programs for our community.

    Emergency Management

    Lisa’s unique background as a Military Police Woman as well as in the Emergency Management and humanitarian space spans from responding to floods and fires in Colorado to deploying internationally to war-torn Ukraine and working in refugee camps. Lisa’s experience rooted from her military service has allowed her to better understand policing policies and challenges.

    She has advocated for smart public safety programs and climate-forward solutions that are informed by her experience.

    Building A Resilient Community

    Lisa promotes policies that support Coloradans’ safety. During her first term, Lisa:

    • Strengthened co-responders benefits and protections

    • Required First responders to be paid for the care they give during emergencies

    • Local communities and nonprofits can access free emergency protective equipment (PPE) from the state

    • Tackled food waste by increasing expanding liability protections for businesses and increasing who can receive donations

    Ensuring Access to Healthcare

    Lisa utilizes her experience as a social worker to build better healthcare policy. During her first term, Lisa:

    • Introduced a law requiring large companies (like Walmart and Amazon) to pay their fair share for their excessive Medicaid use

    • Passed bipartisan law protecting disabled veterans from claim sharks trying to take their disability money

    • Expanded access to dry needling services

    • Simplified therapist licensing hours to allow them to start work sooner

    Streamlining Government Systems

    Lisa works to simplify government processes for Coloradans. During her first term, Lisa:

    • Cut red tape around applications and recertifications for safety net programs

    • Standardized dementia care information across all nursing home and assisted care facilities

    • Updated and simplified policies around child protection reporting and investigating

 Lisa’s Current and Former Volunteer Roles

  • Team Rubicon's mission revolves around leveraging the skills, experience, and compassion of military veterans and first responders to serve those affected by disasters and humanitarian crises. Lisa has spent over a decade volunteering with them both domestically and internationally. She deployed in response to fires and floods in Colorado, most recently the Marshall fire in Louisville. She also deployed to Ukraine to evacuate refugees and bring in medical supplies. She is a true humanitarian at heart.

  • Lisa has been supervising graduate social work students during their field placement since 2018. She mentors up and coming social workers interested in policy.

  • The Community Table is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food assistance and other essential services to individuals and families in need in the Arvada, Colorado. Lisa has volunteered, donated and served on their board in a effort to support their mission.

    Resources include:

    Food Assistance: Providing nutritious food to individuals and families facing food insecurity and hunger in the community. This may include distributing food through food pantry programs, mobile food distributions, or meal programs.

    Emergency Assistance: Offering emergency food assistance to individuals and families experiencing temporary crises, such as job loss, medical emergencies, or natural disasters.

    Nutrition Education: Providing education and resources to promote healthy eating habits and nutrition among clients, including information on meal planning, budgeting, and cooking skills.

    Referral Services: Connecting clients with additional resources and support services, such as housing assistance, utility assistance, healthcare services, and employment resources, to address their broader needs and improve their overall well-being.

    Community Building: Fostering a sense of community and support among clients, volunteers, donors, and partners through collaborative efforts to address hunger and poverty in the local area.

    Advocacy: Advocating for policies and initiatives at the local, state, and national levels that address the root causes of hunger and poverty, promote food security, and support vulnerable populations.

  • Foothills Regional Housing (FRH) is a housing organization serving the Foothills region of Colorado. Lisa has volunteered and served on their board for several years. She currently serves on their board.

    Services and programs include:

    Affordable Housing: Providing affordable housing options for individuals and families in the Foothills region who may struggle to afford market-rate housing. This can include rental units, transitional housing, and affordable homeownership opportunities.

    Housing Stability: Promoting housing stability by offering support services and resources to help individuals and families maintain their housing and avoid homelessness. This may include financial assistance, case management, and connections to community resources.

    Community Development: Contributing to the overall development and revitalization of the Foothills region by investing in affordable housing initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, promote economic stability, and enhance quality of life for residents.

    Supportive Services: Providing supportive services tailored to the needs of residents, such as employment assistance, education and training programs, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and other wraparound services that help individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency.

    Advocacy: Advocating for policies and initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels that support affordable housing development, address housing affordability issues, and promote equitable access to housing for all residents of the Foothills region.

    Partnerships and Collaboration: Collaborating with local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, community stakeholders, and private sector partners to leverage resources, share best practices, and coordinate efforts to address housing challenges in the Foothills region effectively.

  • BeyondHome works to provide housing stability, support, and empowerment to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in Colorado, while also advocating for systemic change to address the underlying causes of homelessness and housing inequality. Lisa has volunteered and donated to their mission, to include a volunteer day that she made her dad join!

  • The Arvada Chamber of Commerce serves as a vital organization supporting businesses and economic growth in Arvada, Colorado. It fosters networking opportunities, advocates for business interests, and provides resources and support to help local businesses thrive. Through its initiatives, the Chamber contributes to the overall prosperity and development of the Arvada community. Lisa has served on various committees within the chamber and has donated her time to many causes!

  • Healing Warriors Program is a nonprofit organization based in Colorado that provides holistic healing therapies to veterans and their families. Here are some key aspects of the Healing Warriors Program:

    Holistic Healing Therapies: The program offers a range of holistic therapies to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of veterans. These therapies may include acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, healing touch, and energy medicine, among others.

    Specialized Care: Healing Warriors Program specializes in treating veterans who have served in combat zones and may be dealing with physical injuries, chronic pain, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other service-related conditions.   • Veterans Legal Services (VLS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free legal assistance to low-income veterans and their families. Here are some key aspects of their services:

    Legal Representation: VLS offers free legal representation to veterans and their families in a variety of legal matters, including veterans' benefits claims, discharge upgrades, housing issues, and family law matters. They provide skilled attorneys who specialize in veterans' legal issues to assist clients throughout the legal process.

    Benefits Claims: VLS assists veterans in obtaining VA benefits by helping them navigate the complex claims process, gather necessary evidence, and appeal denials. They work to ensure that veterans receive the benefits they are entitled to for service-connected disabilities, pensions, education, and healthcare.

    Discharge Upgrades: VLS helps veterans with less than honorable discharges upgrade their discharge status, which can significantly improve their access to VA benefits, employment opportunities, and housing stability. They provide legal representation and advocacy before military review boards to present the veteran's case for an upgrade.

    Housing Assistance: VLS provides legal assistance to veterans facing housing instability, homelessness, or housing-related legal issues. They help veterans with eviction defense, accessing affordable housing options, resolving landlord-tenant disputes, and obtaining housing subsidies and vouchers.

    Family Law and Probate: VLS offers legal representation and advice to veterans in family law matters, such as divorce, child custody, child support, and visitation rights. They also assist veterans with estate planning and probate matters, ensuring that their legal affairs are in order.

    Outreach and Education: VLS conducts outreach and education efforts to raise awareness about veterans' legal issues and available resources. They may host workshops, clinics, and presentations in the community to inform veterans about their rights and how VLS can assist them.

  • White Stork is a veteran-led nonprofit that assembles and delivers emergency medical kits to war torn ares across the globe. In addition, volunteers evacuate refugees from the country. Lisa worked with this organization in Ukraine by bringing in supplies and evacuated women and children during the first few weeks of the war.

  • Arvada Jefferson Kiwanis Club is dedicated to serving the local community through various service and fundraising project. Lisa has been an active member since 2020.

  • Lisa co-founded the Boston College Veterans program after learning there was no supportive programs for transitioning veterans. The program now is a top military friendly school with hundreds of veterans being served.

  • Hope House of Colorado provides housing, education, and support for pregnant and parenting teenagers and young women facing challenges such as homelessness and poverty. They empower residents through education, life skills training, and holistic support, helping them transition to independent living while fostering a sense of community and belonging. Lisa has volunteered for several years with this organization that resides just down the street from her.

  • Lisa serves the Habitat for Humanity Denver chapter on the ground building homes in the Denver Metro region. She even volunteered to help build a home in Wheat Ridge when she was 8 months pregnant!

  • The primary function is to assess community needs, review funding requests, and make recommendations regarding the allocation of funds for various community service programs and projects. Lisa volunteered and served on this board for 3 years before getting elected to Arvada City Council
